The new album from Still Heat Records in Newcastle is Katkos (Outage) by Luke Lund. The 9 tracks here are ambient lo-fi industrial, with layers of white noise slithering between bruised beats. Beats are minimal and originating in the world of dub, but the musical content is utterly minimal. This is not a negative thing: this album works perfectly with pads incinerated into thin white noise by distortion. It is burnt, blistered and full of sinuous static, living in a wireless-drenched radiated wasteland of it’s own making.
The release itself is limited to 50 copies of a cassette, in an immaculately designed cover. This is an incredibly stylish package that compliments the music perfectly. At just £3 plus P&P for the cassette, it really is a steal.
